Samson Young, ‘Muted Situation #22: Muted Tchaikovsky's 5th’, 2018, https://www.trg.ed.ac.uk/exhibition/samson-young-real-music

Edinburgh University’s Talbot Rice gallery presents the expansive musical vision of Hong Kong artist and composer Samson Young 楊嘉輝 (b. 1979). In his first UK solo exhibition, Young collaborates with the University of Edinburgh’s Next Generation Sound Synthesis research group to digitally create the sonic elements of Possible Music 2 (2018-) from imaginary instruments. His new composition features technically impossible and fantastical sounds, such as melting bugles played by dragons and horns the size of monuments. Presented via creatively arranged musical notation, sound installations, and lectures, Young draws attention to the existing material for sound art that already exists within classical composing.
