Glasgow based multi-media artist Rae-Yen Song creates an unconventional, sacred space in ▷▥◉▻ (Pronounced “Seoh”, a family name meaning “precious” in Hokkien). With forms inspired by Daoist art, Scottish and Chinese culture, and science fiction, Song explores the contradictions within the diaspora experience, such as the tension between one’s the distant past and imagined future, current cultural identity and family history. In ▷▥◉▻, Song’s humorous, experimental and irreverent structures create a new mythology specific to her family line, celebrating their synthesised identity.
