Flowing of Still Life, Thinking of Retreat assembles notable Chinese participants in the Glenfiddich artists in residency programme from the past 12 years. While varying massively in style and medium, from Jin Feng’s fragmentary noir photography to Gao Yu’s vivid cartoon worlds, each artist was able to respond and benefit from Glenfiddich’s calm and secluded atmosphere, retreating from their everyday lives for three months to work on one piece or body of work outside the routines, concerns and constraints of their homeland in the distillery’s Dufftown site. From this calm, creative atmosphere, Chinese artists have been able to actualise their creative visions, just as the light, sharp taste of Glenfiddich whisky emerges from the still, rural land surrounding the distillery.
