The Glenfiddich Whisky distillery’s artist in residency program has been in operation since 2002 and allows up to eight artists from many different countries to use the distillery’s studios for a period every year. Each artist is tasked with making work inspired by their experience of Glenfiddich during their stay, as they immerse themselves in the community of Dufftown, Banffshire, and work with local artisans. This program has a history of supporting the work of Chinese and Taiwanese artists, often having one representative from each country every year. This programme has hosted some of the most significant names in contemporary Chinese and Taiwanese art of the last 20 years, including Wu Chi-Tsung 吴季璁 (Taiwan), Yao Jui-Chung 姚瑞中 (Taiwan), and Gao Yu 高瑀 (China).

The positive impact of this residency on Chinese and Taiwanese artists was recognised in 2017 and 2018 with the “Springs Eternal: Glenfiddich Artists in Residence – 12 Years from Taiwan” exhibition, held in Beitou, Taipei. This exhibition showcased the artists involved in the program over the last 12 years, featuring the work of Chen Hui-Chiao 陳慧嶠, Wu Chi -Tsung 吴季璁, Yao Jui-Chung 姚瑞中, Yuan Goang-Ming 袁廣鳴, Wang Jun-Jieh 王俊傑, Chen Shiau-Peng 陳 曉 朋, Mia Wen-Hsuan Liu 劉文瑄, Wu Tung-Lung 吳東龍, Agi Chen 陳怡潔, Joyce Ho 何采柔, Chang Huei-Ming 張暉明 and Lin Kun-Ying 林昆穎.

Additionally, “Flowing of Still Life, Thinking of Retreat: Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Programme -12 Years from China,” held in Shanghai, similarly celebrates the past 12 years of Scottish-Chinese collaberation in the programme, featuring artists Ding Jie 丁杰, Jin Feng 金锋, Qi Xing 齐星, Mao Yan 毛焰, Zhang Qing 章清, Yuan Yuan 袁远, Zhang Yunyao 张云垚, Hu Zi 胡子, Su Chang 苏畅, Hu Weiyi 胡为一, Zhang Ruyi 张如怡, Gao Yu 高瑀
